Dental Bonding

Conservative, cost-effective, and convenient cosmetic dental bonding for chips and more

Teeth may become chipped due to habits and behaviors, such as aggressive brushing and chronic teeth grinding. Additionally, the aging process can thin the enamel. Teeth may become weaker. Weak teeth are vulnerable to chips and fractures or breakage.

Manchester Dental has a conservative, fast, and affordable way to repair chips and other cosmetic imperfections: composite resin bonding.

Bonding for chips and more

First, Dr. Abel Aguilar will take a close look inside of your mouth. During a consultation at our office in Manchester, Georgia, you will discuss things like what bothers you about your smile. It is essential for Dr. Aguilar to give your mouth a clean bill of health before moving forward with bonding and other elective cosmetic procedures.

Bonding largely “repairs” these imperfections by covering them up. They are no longer visible in the smile. In addition to chipped teeth, Dr. Aguilar can prepare, apply, and secure the composite resin or bonding material to disguise:

  • Gapped teeth
  • Other minor spacing issues that do not require orthodontic treatment
  • Small cracks or fractures
  • Very yellow teeth or intrinsic discoloration (resistant to teeth whitening)
  • Poorly-shaped teeth
  • Teeth that are “undersized” or worn-down

This tooth-colored, biocompatible resin can, in turn, be applied to cover up imperfections as well as to add additional structure to a tooth. This characteristic of bonding allows for the reshaping or resizing of a tooth that sticks out and detracts from the uniformity and balance of the smile. We can prepare, design, and secure the bonding material to the teeth in just one visit. So, bonding is an efficient as well as economical alternative to procedures that cover up similar concerns (like veneers). There are pros and cons to each procedure, which we are happy to discuss with you.

Chips can be signs of enamel wear. You must have sufficient healthy enamel to support bonding. Also, it is crucial to understand the cause of your chipped teeth in the first place. That way, we can ensure the bonding material doesn’t become damaged. If bruxism or teeth grinding is to blame, Dr. Aguilar will discuss protective nightguards. These appliances prevent future damage to dental work and natural teeth.
