How to bleach your teeth at home 

Patients may maintain their results with the home bleaching methods. Our patients also appreciate that whitening at home is comfortable and convenient.  

The process starts with us designing custom whitening trays. These are different from the trays that you buy at the store. These trays are customized to fit your mouth and your mouth only. They are made from impressions or models of your mouth. Since these trays fit so precisely, they ensure: 

• Even application of the whitening gel 
• Comfort 
• Prevent the trays from leaking 
• Optimal and natural-looking results
• Irritation or damage to surrounding tissues is avoided

Once the trays are made, we will show you how to use them. Simply fill the trays with the whitening gel. Slip the respective trays into your mouth and over your teeth. The trays should fit snugly yet comfortably. As these appliances are worn, the whitening gel is transferred from each tray to your teeth. 

Opalescence Go™ trays are based on similar principles, only the trays are designed to be worn out of the box. They conform to your mouth – no impressions needed! Since the trays are “prefilled,” they provide a hassle-free, no-mess, and fail-proof way to whiten teeth.   

Regardless of method, only wear the trays as directed by Dr. Aguilar. The total wear time each day depends on factors specific to you, your needs, and your situation. For instance, individuals at risk of heightened tooth sensitivity may be prescribed a less concentrated whitening gel. They may also be instructed to wear the tray for less time each day or night than someone who does not have a history of sensitive teeth. When worn properly, you will notice gradually lighter teeth.
