Manchester Dental provides complete care for the whole family. Our dentist, Dr. Abel Aguilar, treats patients as young as three or four at his office in Manchester, Georgia. These patients do not “age out” of our practice. They continue to benefit from our high-quality care. We also have the onsite capabilities to handle even the most complex conditions, so we continue to care for the needs of patients as they age and as those needs evolve and grow. The following four services represent some of the ways that we treat grandparents and grandchildren alike.
Getting your child comfortable with the dentist, dental team, office, and visits is important as soon as possible. Your child will soon realize that visiting the dentist is not something to fear. They may even look forward to our kid’s play area, filled with fun toys and books. These visits are also opportunities to detect and resolve problems that could affect your child’s oral and overall development if they go untreated.
Dental sealants are largely recommended as soon as children’s permanent back teeth begin to erupt, which usually occurs at around the age of six. These molars will continue to break through the gums until around the age of 12. Sealants protect the grooved surfaces of these back teeth. Food particles and bacteria tend to become trapped in their uneven surfaces, which is why nine out of every 10 cavities form in the back teeth. By applying sealants, we “seal out” the foods and harmful bacteria that promote the development of tooth decay and gum disease. Other in-office, prevention-focused services include custom oral appliances like nightguards or mouthguards. These special devices protect the teeth and any dental work (like fillings) from damage or trauma caused by chronic teeth grinding and sports injuries.
While the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first orthodontic evaluation by their seventh birthday, most pediatric patients undergo treatment in their pre-teens to early teens. At this stage, most children have a mouth full of permanent teeth, but their jawbones are still growing and developing. For these reasons, it is generally easier to use braces to reposition teeth at this time. However, more older teens and adults are also straightening their teeth. Dr. Aguilar can introduce you to lightweight and cosmetic braces and alternatives such as Invisalign®.
All patients, regardless of age and needs, should visit Manchester Dental at least once every six months or two times per year. During these “checkups,” our team will ask you about any changes in your health or life that could influence your oral health. As we age, medical conditions may develop, making us more susceptible to developing oral infections, tooth decay, and other dental diseases. It is important for us to know about these changes so we can then recommend adjustments to oral care that minimize your risk of developing oral problems. For instance, medications taken to manage many chronic diseases are associated with dry mouth. A lack of saliva in the mouth increases your risk of cavities, gum disease, oral thrush, and mouth sores. We can recommend products and other changes to help with salivary flow. In addition to performing exams, one of our dental hygienists will expertly clean your teeth at every visit. This service also helps reduce the risk of the leading causes of tooth loss – decay and periodontal disease.
With preventive care, your teeth and smile can remain intact. Other services, such as our advanced tooth replacement with dental implants, are unnecessary. Our “family” in Manchester, GA, also treats you like family. Dr. Aguilar’s wife, Jamie, makes her famous healing soup for patients who undergo procedures like extractions, crowns, and bridges. These “small touches” are a big deal to us. Now that you know about us, we look forward to getting to know your family. Call (706) 981-6272 to schedule your visit today.
